My daughter suddenly began consistent bedwetting at the age of 5. She also experienced constipation for six months, which the pediatrician believed the bedwetting was a result of. After a couple of visits to her pediatrician to treat constipation and trying Miralax unsuccessfully, we decided to try going to a chiropractor. Dr. Chong quickly identified some potential causes and we noticed improvement after the very first treatment. She also sent us home with some at-home treatments to work with. Each treatment has provided our daughter with increased reflief of stomach aches and pains and has eliminated her complaints of troubled breathing.

Mitchell's Story

Jaci's Story

My name is Mindy and I have been a nurse for over 40 years. I have had problems with back pain for many years and began having daily headaches. I would often trip “over my own feet”. As I became older, I realized I was beginning to feel like I could not take a deep breath.  I came to see Dr. Chong for chiropractic scoliosis care 2 years ago.  I have seen a number of chiropractors for many years which helped with symptom relief; however, no changes were made to my scoliosis curves.  My curves were 19 degrees in my middle back and 16 degrees in my lower back.  They are now 5 degrees in my middle back and 5 degrees in my lower back and have maintained that correction for 2 years.  My quality of life has improved in all areas - I no longer trip over my own feet, have better lung capacity, fewer episodes of back pain and headaches -- and my posture has improved.  I really enjoy working with Dr. Chong -- she is a personable and compassionate caregiver who has guided me in lessening my spinal curvature and now maintaining my back health. I am very thankful for CLEAR Institute -- paving the way for doctors to treat scoliosis patients in a new and effective way.

I had always been active my whole life.  Everything started falling apart.  I had lost range of motion, sometimes I would be almost crippled after playing softball, my legs would cramp up after barely starting a run.  I attributed it to getting old but started to realize that it was more than that. I went to see Dr Chong and she put together a plan of adjustments and daily exercises.  At first there were multiple adjustments a week and 45 minutes of exercises.  We have since ramped that down to a monthly adjustment and minimal stretches.  I can now do the things that I love again.  I would and do recommend Dr Chong to everyone, she has helped me so much.

In June 2015, our daughter Jaci was diagnosed with scoliosis during a routine spinal adjustment at the chiropractic office where I work. While she was lying on the table, my boss noticed a rib hump on her right side. He immediately took an x-ray to confirm his suspicions. She already had a high thoracic curve that could have potentially require her to have surgery. We believe her scoliosis progressed very quickly, as there had been no visible sign of scoliosis several months earlier. That day, my boss encouraged us to check out CLEAR Institute. He had attended one of Dr. Woggon’s classes at a seminar earlier that year, and he felt that their achievements were impressive. I immediately did research online that night and read everything I could. This diagnosis rocked our world. Overnight we learned everything we could about scoliosis. Reading about surgery and braces and CLEAR protocols made our heads spin. But the more we learned, the more we knew that CLEAR was the direction we wanted to go. We decided to go to a CLEAR doctor for four main reasons. First, the success rate of people who have been faithful with the recommended protocols impressed us. Second, our daughter would not need to wear a back brace 24 hours a day. Third, the procedures are non-invasive. In our opinion, the best option is to try to avoid surgery if at all possible. Finally, scoliosis can continue to get worse even later in life, but continued care with a CLEAR doctor can keep it at bay. I had planned to go to Dr. Woggon’s clinic, but then discovered that Dr. Chong had worked with him for many years and had just recently opened her office in Dubuque, Iowa. We decided to visit to her office instead because it was several hours closer for us. Additionally, since she had worked with Dr. Woggon directly, we felt that she would have extensive experience. I called Dr. Chong and immediately felt that we had picked the right place. Dr. Chong was, has been, and is very thorough in explaining the process and answering my many questions. I really cannot say enough good things about her. The one-on-one care she gives Jaci is worth every penny we have spent. I have watched her fine tune Jaci’s program until she is satisfied that Jaci has exactly what she needs. We went for Jaci’s two week intensive treatment in July 2015. When we arrived, Jaci’s curves were 42 degrees thoracic and 32 degrees lumbar. Dr. Chong did such a fantastic job explaining everything she did and why each step is important. The longer we were there, the more confident I became that we had made the right decision for our daughter. Jaci is not an easy case. Not only does she have scoliosis, but her spinous processes have also rotated. So what “normally” works for most patients didn’t work for her. But Dr. Chong did not give up and continued to tweak her weighting until she had the right protocol for Jaci. At the end of the two weeks, Jaci had gone down to 34 degrees thoracic and 22 degrees lumbar! Even though we knew the road ahead of us would not be easy, we left with so much hope after just two weeks of therapy. Jaci uses the scoliosis chair and does spinal weighting, both twice a day. She has several other exercises she does at home as well. We have found that it takes a lot of effort and discipline on both the patient’s and the parent’s part to do the recommended CLEAR protocols. The first year is pretty intense. And when life gets busy, completing the daily protocols can be a real challenge. You have to keep the end goal in sight – your child’s future and health! This treatment is not necessarily the easiest thing to do, but we are confident that in the long run it is the best thing to do! When you see improvement, knowing that the scoliosis is not progressing but improving, the time is SO WORTH IT!! And no brace means our daughter has more freedom and is more comfortable. A couple hours of therapy per day provide a much better option than surgery or a confining brace, neither of which actually address the continued progression of scoliosis. We have a lot of confidence in the CLEAR protocols because we have seen the results with our own eyes. In October when she returned for another week of treatment, Dr. Chong tweaked her regimen again, and by the time we left, Jaci’s scoliosis had improved a few more degrees! For the type of scoliosis Jaci has, that’s amazing. As a parent, the CLEAR process gives me a great deal of hope for our daughter’s future.
